Fears Seniors Often Have About Online Business
Are You Afraid To Try Online Business?
For many seniors, the idea of building an online business can be frightening. They may not be net-savvy… or they may have never had a business of their own. It may all seem to be too complex, even overwhelming.
The key word here is “seem” … it only seems that way. Everything seems difficult before it is understood and becomes familiar. Then it often becomes easy. It is important to disregard your limiting beliefs and open your mind up to the possibility that you’ll be able to do it all with relative ease.
Any new skill requires learning. If you’re willing to learn, you can succeed online.
Let’s looks at a few common fears that seniors have about online marketing.
Am I Too Old to Learn This!?
It’s not a matter of how old you are. All hurdles that you may have to overcome are almost certainly within your abilities.
There’s a misconception among some seniors that the internet and technology is for young people … and it’s all beyond them now that they’re old as dirt. This is a self-limiting belief. In all probability, you can learn to do anything you will need to do. And, even if you can’t, there are many ways you can get all the help you might nee.
Just getting online and spending an hour a day for a month surfing and looking through the different social media sites, etc. will give you a good understanding of how the online world works.
Don’t let your fear of being “too old” hold you back! You can do it!
What If I’m Not Very Good with Technical Things?
Even if this is true, it’s another thing that you can overcome. You can probably become proficient with the tech stuff if you work at learning how to do it. There are countless websites and videos with instructions to guide you every step of the way.
Many seniors have taught themselves how to build a business online just by searching for help on Google and YouTube. It’s just a matter of looking, learning and applying.
You can get net-savvy and learn how to do the tech stuff, if you put in the effort.
I Don’t Know Anything About Business
You don’t need to be a “born business person” to succeed online. All you have to do is model yourself on others who are succeeding online. Watch what they are doing and replicate their actions and effort.
Put your own spin on things and exercise your creativity. As a senior, you’ll have experience and your own take on things. Go ahead and be yourself. Observe the fundamentals, but at the same time allow yourself to be different.
I Might Fail!
Well, finally, here’s a legitimate fear! Still, though, you don’t even need to worry about it. You definitely are going to fail… and that is a good thing!
Failure is not the opposite of success. It’s a part of success. For you to succeed online, you must fail. This is inevitable. So, you should expect it and not fear it.
Baseball players have more strikeouts than hits. Movie studios that have been in business for decades still can’t predict if a movie will be a blockbuster or a flop.
That’s just the way it is. You must be willing to take failure in your stride and keep moving forward till you succeed.
Initially, when you’re learning how it all works, you will make mistakes. This is par for the course. Do NOT throw in the towel. Keep persevering and learn from your mistakes till you see success.
Overcome Your Fears By Taking Action
By now, you should realize that most of these fears are unfounded… and even if you think they’re justified, all you need to do is get started. Action is the antidote to fear.
Once you’ve overcome inertia and are moving forward, you’ll dispel your fears and succeed online.
Act today and reap the rewards in future.
One of the best actions you can take to get started, and to overcome your fears, is to get information that will guide you in your efforts. My friend David Perdew has an excellent training program for those who want to start an online business and need guidance about what to do and how to do it. I highly recommend his program. It is called Simple Business Startup Masterclass. You can get complete information about it here.
Making Money Online – From Home
Now Is The Time
There is no better time than now to build a business and make money online. With over 3.2 billion people now actively using the internet, we are well into a massive transformation in how the world does business. We are living in an age where there no longer are limitations on what you can achieve based on geographic location or lack of financial resources.
It Doesn’t Take Much To Get Started
If you have an internet connection and a few dollars in your bank account, there is little that can get in the way of you making some extra money online. You can start today to generate real income streams from various online methods like freelancing writers, being a virtual assistant, podcasting, setting up an ecommerce website, starting a money making blog, becoming an affiliate marketer, or any of the many
other new methods that have emerged recently.
A Little Extra, Or All You Need and Want
For many people, the practice of making money online has become a way to make ends meet and earn extra money, extra fast. Consequently, more and more people are becoming self employed and spending all their time browsing through the Internet in the search of the
next money-making gig.
The benefits of making money online are obvious and there are many reasons people choose to work from home:
- A more flexible schedule to allow for taking care of children or aging parents
- Being able to travel
- The opportunity to create an income you desire regardless of your experience or education
- More independence to work on projects that are important to you
- A more flexible schedule that allows for volunteer work
- No more office politics
- The ability to work with your creativity
- No more commute time
What do you need to make money on the internet?
When it comes to landing – and keeping – a work-at-home job, there are a few basic tools you should have in your bag. Here are few of them:
1. A quality computer and other hardware.
If you want to work from home, you need to have a computer – and a few other things too. When you first start out as a remote worker, you may not have a lot of capital to pour into buying the latest hardware. That’s okay; just make sure that you buy smart. Purchase a new or refurbished computer that will last you for some years and has sufficient specs to keep up with changes in office suite software and Internet-based apps.
Some work-at-home jobs, like customer service, will have a list of equipment requirements that need to be met. This is to ensure you have a stable and secure connection when processing customer requests. Other jobs, like freelance writing, may have no equipment or internet speed requirements at all. You can literally do your job anywhere anytime.
2. A functional self-management system.
Working from home takes a lot of self-discipline. Before you become a remote worker, make sure you have a good system for keeping yourself organized and on task. Use whatever works for you – make a bullet journal, organize your duties on Trello, keep a detailed Google Calendar with Calendly for setting meetings. Just make sure you have a self-management scheme that keeps you going.
3. A comfortable workspace.
Many work-from-home jobs that you find will require you to sit at your computer for long periods each day. So, it is super important that you have a comfortable space to work! Even if it is just a comfortable chair pulled up to an old table that is the right height, or a spot on your couch, put some thoughtfulness for your future self into your home office. Your body will thank you.
Companies that Hire for Work from Home
There are so many large companies that hire remote workers to work online. The larger the company, the more requirements, and prerequisites they likely have in place. That is not necessarily a bad thing. Even though you may need a newer computer, they may be
offering health insurance and a full-time schedule. There is always a trade-off. Know that more scheduling freedom and flexibility and less management oversight may mean lesser pay or no benefits.
How to Make Money Online with a Home Business
Maybe you do not want to work for someone else. Maybe you want total control over your schedule and your future. That is cool too. Home business opportunities are plentiful like:
- Selling on Amazon
- Being a Pinterest Assistant
- Selling Used Books
- Making Money on eBay
- Direct Sales Companies
- Making Money with Retail Arbitrage
- Becoming a Virtual Assistant
- Becoming a Social Media Manager

Ways to Earn Extra Money
This applies to almost everyone looking for a good side hustle. Why? Because it is something everyone should be doing regardless of whether they are looking for a little something to earn a few pennies during commercial breaks that requires minimal effort, or they are looking to create a full-time income from home.

No one is going to magically show up on your doorstep offering you a great gig. You must go get it.
When it comes to looking for jobs, we recommend the following job boards:
- FlexJobs – researching all leads to ensure no scams, no business opportunities, nothing that does not have flex potential.
